What drives him

The beliefs behind BacaApps

Read every day

Books are still the best teachers, and every reader deserves a way to keep up with them.

Never stop learning

Curiosity is a lifelong habit. There is always a next idea worth learning.

Invest in knowledge

A few minutes of reading, repeated daily, grows into a library of ideas. Knowledge is the investment that always pays back.

His story

Every company has an origin story. Ours begins on a bookshelf.

This is how a love of reading, a career spent studying markets and one simple idea about time came together to build BacaApps.

  1. A stack of books and an open book under a reading lamp, with a cup of coffee
    Chapter 1

    The reader

    It started with books

Before the trading screens and the fund reports, there were books. For Alfi, they were the favourite part of the day.

One book led to the next, and every one left something behind: a new way of seeing a problem, a question worth asking, a reason to keep learning. That habit of reading and learning would follow him into everything he did next.

Reading was never a chore. It was how he chose to spend his time.

  2. A screen with a rising stock chart beside an open book and a pen
    Chapter 2

    The analyst2012 – 2015

    Learning to read the market

In November 2012 he stepped into Indonesia's capital market at Mandiri Sekuritas. Soon after, as an equity analyst at OSO Securities covering the commodity and mining sectors, his days were filled with a different kind of reading: annual reports, company filings, commodity prices, and the small details that move a stock.

The love of reading became a professional discipline, and a simple rule for every decision.

Read widely, question everything, and decide with evidence.

  3. Stacks of books growing taller like a rising bar chart, with a sprout on the tallest
    Chapter 3

    The insight

    The lesson of compounding

At an asset manager, working on mutual fund portfolios, one lesson stands above the rest: small, steady contributions, given time, grow into something remarkable.

Knowledge works the same way. A few pages a day, kept up for a year, changes how a person thinks. Yet most people never get there. Not for lack of curiosity, but for lack of time to finish the books they want to read.

Knowledge compounds, just like an investment.

  4. A phone playing a book summary, with headphones and books floating around it
    Chapter 4

    The founder

    Building BacaApps

So he set out to build what a busy reader needs: the key ideas of great non-fiction, distilled into summaries in Bahasa Indonesia that anyone can read or listen to in about fifteen minutes. On the way to work, at the gym, or before bed.

    That idea became BacaApps.

A reader's habit, made possible for everyone.
